GreenHaven Studios furniture is handmade by local artisans in the Carolinas. We don’t leave the quality of our products to chance and are involved in every aspect of development and design. One of the most important but often overlooked aspects of eco-friendly products is durability, and this definitely goes for furniture. When something is resilient and/or can be readily repaired, it reduces the likelihood that it will end up in a landfill. This could easily save you money in the long run, even if it’s initially more expensive. Durable goods that last can be passed on from generation to generation.

We use Sustainable Hardwoods
Why do we use hardwoods from sustainable forests? Let's first answer the question of “why hardwoods?” Most furniture is made with formaldehyde-resin plywood, particleboard, and veneers that contain synthetic adhesives and finishes which outgas toxic fumes into the air you breath. GreenHaven Studios furniture is free of toxic glues and formaldehyde because we use real hardwoods. When certain pieces require plywood to prevent warping, we use plywood with a non-toxic, soy-based adhesive to maintain our Green Promise to you.

What is “sustainable forestry?” It can best be described as the attainment of balance between society's increasing demands for forest products and the preservation of forest health and diversity. The world needs more trees, not less; and we will not support practices that lead to the deforestation of our planet. Not only do trees absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, they keep the surface of the planet cool and they hold soil together so it can stay rich. And they provide the habitat that animals, insects, birds, and other plants call home.

We use Low VOC Finishes
Most paints and finishes in furniture can offgas toxins, referred to as Volatile Organic Compounds. VOCs are the most common family of chemicals that are offgassed and have been linked to short and long term health problems such as birth defects, endocrine disruption, and cancer. That’s why GreenHaven Studios uses premium Low VOC paints in making furniture for your child’s room; and, as even safer alternatives are invented, you can be certain that we will lead the way to use them.
The recent recall with toys made in China has raised much consumer concern on the lead content in baby products. We want you to rest assured that the painting material used in GreenHaven Studios furniture is non-toxic – in fact, our finishes are GREENGUARD Certified!
